What type of cleaning is for you?

January 26, 2016

Dental cleanings are an important part of your oral health along with your overall health.  There are multiple different strands of bacteria which harbor in your mouth, some good and some bad.  Less than half the population is considered to be healthy- so why are so many patients getting a “regular” cleaning?  It is important for dentists and hygienists to understand what qualifies for a regular cleaning. At your dental visit, your dentist or hygienist will begin, or end, with periodontal probing and bleeding points.  This charts where the bone is in relation to the tissue and where the bleeding is located.  In a healthy mouth probing numbers are 1-3mm with no bleeding which qualifies for a regular cleaning.  If there are 4+mm pockets with bleeding, it is important to discuss the need for a deep cleaning and more frequent maintenance appointments to maintain the disease.  Give us a call us today to consult with your dental professional about which type of cleaning is best for you!
